Red Eft #1
graphite, colored pencil, and acrylic ink
5.5" x 14"
I saw my first red eft (actually one of three life stages of the Eastern Newt) while backpacking in the Green Mountains in Vermont in the summer of 2013 and immediately fell in love with this tiny bright orange creature roaming the mountain forests. After never having seen one before in my life I saw a second one in the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts and a third on Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire that same summer/fall. I started to feel like either I was following the efts or they were following me, and I became a little bit obsessed with them which led to a lot of eft drawings and research the following winter.
